Environmental policies to reduce carbon footprint of overhead multiple-input multiple-output high-voltage/broadband over power lines (MIMO/HV/BPL) networks

Dr. A.G. Lazaropoulos (National Technical University of Athens, Greece) has investigated the impact of different environmental policies on the broadband performance of overhead multiple-input multiple-output high-voltage/broadband over power lines (MIMO/HV/BPL) networks. “…carbon energy footprint reduction in information and communications technology (ICT) becomes a growing concern for providers in order not only to reduce their environmental effect  but also to enhance their profitability…”, said Lazaropoulos.  (Trends in Renewable Energy, vol. 1, pp. 87-118. doi:10.17737/tre.2015.1.2.0011)

This article reviews major features of today’s BPL networks for use in future’s greener overhead MIMO/HV/BPL networks; indicates that these networks can operate both as a robust broadband platform for SG applications across the transmission power grid and as a green communications solution; determines dynamic equilibria between capacity and EE capacity of the different overhead MIMO/HV/BPL configurations.
